Female Facelifts
in New York City, New York
The aging process can result in the sagging of the face and neck and can also cause wrinkling. These issues may be caused by the effects of gravity, exposure to the sun and everyday stressors that can be seen in your face. A facelift cannot stop the aging process, but it can improve the most visible signs of the aging process. Through the technology of today's facelift, Manhattan plastic surgeon, Dr. George Lefkovits, MD works to improve problem areas by:
- Tightening muscle
- Removing excess fat
- Re-draping the skin on your face and neck
A facelift can be done alone, but sometimes it is paired with other procedures such as forehead lifts, eyelid surgery, or nose reshaping.
A facelift will take several hours. Incisions usually begin above the hairline at the temples, extend in a natural line in front of the ear and continue behind the earlobe. If your neck needs work, a small incision may also be made under the chin. The procedure is performed by separating the skin from the fat and muscle below. Fat is trimmed or suctioned from around the next and chin to improve the contour. The underlying muscle is then tightened, the skin is pulled back and the excess is removed.

You should be up and around in about a day or two after surgery, but you should plan on taking it easy for the first week after surgery. Dr. Lefkovits will provide you with guidelines to help you plan how to gradually resume your normal activities. Some suggestions are:
- Avoid strenuous activity
- Avoid alcohol, steam baths and saunas for several months
- Get plenty of rest and allow your body to spend energy on healing
Immediately after surgery, your face may look and feel strange, and your features may seem distorted from the natural swelling. Some bruising will last for 2 to 3 weeks after the surgery. However, by the third week, you will start to feel much better and the appearance of your face will be more of what you anticipated after surgery. You will have some scars from your facelift, but they are usually hidden by your hair or in the natural creases of your face and ears. In most cases, they will fade in time.
A facelift will not stop the clock, and your face will continue to age. But, in any case, you will continue after surgery to look better than if you had never had the procedure done.
