Male Liposuction Surgery

Liposuction is a technique whereby localized fat deposits are removed using fine tubes called cannulas applied to a suction pump via very small incisions. It is the most common operation performed across the U.S., and is certainly the most popular operation in our office. Areas amendable to liposuction include: face and neck, arms, back, breasts, abdomen, hips, thighs, knees, calves and ankles. Prior to surgery the patient has a physical examination, along with blood tests and photos, which are performed in the office. The patient is also started on antibiotics and iron pills.

The Liposuction Procedure

New York City plastic surgeon Dr. George Lefkovits performs tumescent liposuction in his Manhattan New York cosmetic surgery office operating facility, usually under general anesthesia. Some cases may be performed under local anesthesia with or without sedation. We use the Tumescent liposuction technique which consists of a dilute anesthetic solution mixed with epinephrine. This allows the extraction of large amounts of fat because of decreased blood loss. Multiple areas can usually be done at the same time.

Post-Operative Course

After liposuction , the Post-Operative Course involves wearing a girdle for one-two weeks and then beginning a course of massage and ultrasound treatment, which are performed at our office. These post-op measures help to expedite the healing process. Exercise can begin in a limited fashion after two weeks. Male liposuction patients can usually return to work in a few days to one week.
